My blog

For the month of May, a friend of mine and I have been taking a 31 day "Justice Generation" challenge. Each day I've been reading blogs and visiting websites of different ministries and organizations that are actively fighting against the rampant sex-trafficking industry. I didn't realize it, but there are actually a lot of practical ways to help fight against this horrible injustice and abuse that is happening around the world- even in our own backyards!

“When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, ‘Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?’ He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, ‘Eight months’ wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!’” John 6:5-7

Passion 2013. I had no idea. That 27 million slaves still exist in the world today. Did you know that? Men, women and children around the world (and in our own country) are being victimized and forced into all different types of industries. My heart breaks the most when I hear the stories of little girls who are sex trafficked and abused for money. It’s so wrong. So unjust.

I was convicted in my own life recently of forgetting a key component of the Gospel- the resurrection. I’ve been reading in Acts and have realized that the apostle Paul was persecuted because he was preaching a risen Savior, Jesus Christ. People called him crazy for that. The Jews hated him for claiming this! But really that is the beauty of Christianity and what sets Christ apart from every other religious figure. We don’t celebrate a dead Savior. That would be odd. And really anyone could have died for the world. Everyday firemen are putting their lives in harms way for the sake of protecting other people’s lives. Our military does this everyday. And it is a noble cause. But not one of these people have died for someone and then raised themselves back to life! That’s crazy talk! But that’s why Christians are called crazy, because we proclaim what the Bible says, that Jesus died for our sins but then was raised back to life! Without His resurrection, our faith is in vain and should be pitied (1 Corinthians 15:17-19). But no, we don’t worship a dead Savior, but a living Savior, who reigns in heaven at the Father’s right hand with power! And this isn’t a doctrine that should be reserved for celebrating on Easter alone. No! This doctrine and truth is worthy of celebration everyday because it is the crux of our faith! Believing that Jesus died is not enough! Believing in His death AND resurrection is the faith that saves! Romans 4:23 says, “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.” We went from being in the negative (our debt of sin) to being neutral (paid off by Christ’s death). Neutral is better than being negative I guess, but what’s even better than neutral is being in the positive! That’s what Christ did by rising from the dead. He credited us His own perfect status before God; declared us justified, cleansed, righteous! So let’s not forget the resurrection today. Don’t forget it when you preach the Gospel to yourself. Don’t forget it when you preach the Gospel to others. Let’s not forget that Christ’s resurrection means everything for our faith! Without it we are powerless.

Spring may not technically be here yet but it sure did feel like it today in Lynchburg! Sunny with a high of seventy degrees... ah yes. I probably should have spent my afternoon working on the paper that's due soon in my biblical archaeology class, but I just couldn't let the beauty of the day pass me by. So I threw my bike in the back of my Mountaineer, rolled down the windows and headed downtown for the trails.

You know when you have those hilarious moments by yourself and just want to share them with other people so they can laugh with you? I had one of those moments today.
